I am troubled by the divisive spirit some Christians are sharing all under the guise of caring and sharing and thinking outside the box. Especially concerning politics. I am an activist myself, concerning politics and my country's many troubles, but perhaps not in the sense you are thinking.
Obviously people, even Christian people, have opinions. It could be we have more than the usual ilk of mankind. I'm not saying we should keep our opinions to ourselves but I do believe we should pass our opinions through rigorous testing before we share them.
Here's how I am an activist of politics and my country's movements and the personal rigorous testing I put my opinions under before sharing how I feel about certain policies:
1. I read the headlines and gather information from many points of view. Most points of view make me feel unsettled and burdened.
2. I don't believe everything reported to be a true picture of accuracy. Everything has a tint or agenda of what the reporter wants you to think.
3. I take the information I have gleaned and that burden and unsettledness I felt while reading it, directly to the throne of grace. I don't really care if you are right or left I get a bad feeling from both angles pretty often. This, I believe is a blessing and a gift. Because this is where I am an activist, at the throne of grace.
4. God may use some people differently. They may have clearance to be involved at a level of activism than I am not. That's ok. But I still say they better have passed it through the throne of grace. A Christian should find it absolutely unsafe territory to be involved in something that hasn't been to the "War Room" first and always.
5. The more urgency you sense, the more fervor and zeal you might have on the tip of your tongue or fingertips in this case, all the more time is needed in the "War Room". First and Always.
That is the rigorous test that I use before I can enter a conversation of politics in these crazy unsettled days of opinion and volatile situations. {this also is the test to use in the church or in marriage when problems arise}
God knows we all care. That's why we talk and get hysterical and forceful and mean. But we also do those things because we feel we have no control. "Our world is going to hell in a hand basket" as the saying goes.
Not so. When God's people pray and stayed prayed up, that is the greatest kind of activism and power. If you don't believe me, go find all that wisdom in the Word of God. That's where I found it.
I have been basking in James 3:17
