This morning I put lime juice in my coffee. That was not what I meant to do. Too much multi-tasking makes me sloppy. I was fixing another drink at the same time which is a powder that is supposed to help with blood sugars and calmness, so I thought why not throw a little lime in there for a more interesting flavor? But my poor innocent coffee was nearby and my brain was focused on other things like switching out the laundry or wondering if I should get something out of the freezer for dinner and that's when it happened.
I went to Spokane with my girls yesterday. They were sisters and friends and I delighted in watching them. I am definitely the mom. I am not young and urban like they are, nor do I wish to be. There is a definite barrier between the things we know. It's a beautiful thing.
I used to embarrass them, quite by accident, by driving over a curb or not watching where I was going in the aisles. (according to them)Yesterday, I pretended to fall out of the car when one of them opened the door for me. Sometimes, I say something that in today's language means something other than what I meant. Those kinds of things...Now, I embarrass them, still by accident, but without shame.
Somehow I have survived the last six months shopping alone and find I rather like being my own boss and taking care of myself. I went off independently, to shop for my style of things and found I didn't need their approval or guidance. I know what kind of wrinkle cream, or sweater I like and which boots or purse I swag. Finally, I do.
I love being with my kids and my family and my husband and my friends. They all attempt to keep me in the straight and narrow, even now in my 49th year. Now, I like it and see it as love and care, whereas, I used to feel like they were trying to fix something broken in me.
I guess that's grace or humility or something. Whatever it is, it feels nice to let people assume or think what they want of you and correct you unnecessarily, without letting it cause you to feel bad about yourself. Or the need to set the record straight. That in itself is very freeing. To not have to inform anyone of where they have gone wrong in their thinking or treatment of you. Let it go. God knows. He can correct it if He wishes.
Which leads me to the last post I wrote about activists. I do feel and think all the things I said, but my delivery was too bossy and preachy and sanctimonious. No one needs to know. I can preach all I want and set records straight and share my view, but at the end of the day, I am no different than the other noisy ones out there, telling other's how to think. God, save us everyone!
Anyway, here's to being a human in need of a Savior and a quiet day to mixing drinks properly, no more lime juice in my coffee. Please. Stop and breathe and be gracious today. Amen.
P.S. the lime juice didn't ruin my coffee and I drank it. 🙃
