Many Different Kinds of Same

Did you ever think of humanity as a whole and become overwhelmed with the sameness of us all? We all need sleep, food, and water. We all have emotions and personalities. We all want to live and to enjoy living. Everyone wants to love and be loved. More than that, everyone wants to be made to feel extra special. Most people are happy to tell you about themselves and be given understanding. We ALL want to be understood and accepted.

Yet, it can often feel like a dog eat dog world, wherein dwelleth fierce competition, one better than you-isms, and the ever growing epidemic of, 'let me tell you about me-isms'. Some people are able to get the affirmation they want by talking and convincing themselves of what they just said. Others simply believe everything they think. A few actually think before speaking but get drowned out with the noise of the others who are talking; the quiet words of wisdom simply evaporate because no one listens.

Many people have a lot to say, good stuff to say. Some know how to say it in words out loud as it comes to them. Others struggle to articulate what they are thinking and find it much easier to write it down quietly as a way to declutter. I used to be one of those to say it as it came. I also tended toward believing everything I thought. Instead of clearing the cobwebs in my head, it only made it worse. It wasn't till I started to write the words down on paper that I felt the jumbled mess fall into something clear and concise. There at least, if it didn't make sense or sound pretty, I could revise my thinking and ask God for clarity his way.

Whether you talk or write the words, your desire is to communicate to someone somewhere something. Why? Because we are all the same in so many different ways. Whether your talent is talking or writing or doing quietly, you still want to be noticed, affirmed, and yes, even to be made feel something extra special.

Be that person that you want others to be to you. Listen to their hearts. Hear what they're saying. Stop all the wordy wisdom and reach out by listening. A Christ follower, isn't going to be competitive and have a dog eat dog attitude about communicating. I am suggesting we have a better tool for communicating than our words;  we could use our ears and listen. Learn to listen without thinking of your response. Let your response be heart felt understanding.

And in understanding... Especially when you don't understand or relate. In those times practice praise to God that we ARE all different. I thank God I have friends that will and have adopted children. I am glad there are believers that can read about and enjoy politics, even though my lack of interest on those points make me feel lame, envious, lazy, sheltered, etc...I understand that God needs me, ordinary and plain too. I dwell on the good of both differences and praise God for His making us the same in our need of him, the same in our desire to be understood, to be listened to and to be made to feel extra special.
