Living In The Moment, Mindfulness, or Fetish For Rare Moments

How would one combine all that into one topic? Stick with me and I'll try to explain.

There is much talk of 'mindfulness' in the magazines lately, also called, 'living in the moment.'  Now, I like how those things sound and I think there is a lot of quiet wisdom in there about simplifying, something else I am attracted to doing, but it left me with an empty feeling of nothingness that I had a hard time understanding.

Until, I read good ole Ozzy Chambers the other day. Oswald is a little hard to understand in modern day terms and a bit stuffy sometimes, but this time he spoke my thoughts. I'll just share part of what he said on the reading for April 25 in, My Utmost For His Highest, you can read it all for yourself if you find his book lying around.

[There are unemployables in the spiritual domain, spiritually decrepit people, who refuse to do anything unless they are supernaturally inspired. The proof that we are related to God is that we do our best whether we feel inspired or not.

One of the great snares of the Christian worker is to make a fetish of his rare moments. When the Spirit of God gives you a time of inspiration and insight, you say-"Now I will always be like this for God." No, you will not. God will take care you are not. Those times are the gift of God entirely. You cannot give them to yourself when you choose.

If you say you will only be at your best, you become an intolerable drag on God; you will never do anything unless God keeps you consciously inspired. if you make a god of your best moments, you will find that God will fade out of your life and never come back until you do the duty that lies nearest, and have learned not to make a fetish of your rare moments.]

Next time, I'll tell you about the duty lying nearest me...and it does take a certain amount of mindfulness and living in the moment to get it done, just to simplify things for you. :)
