Feb 3 Write 20 Minutes
Today I went to Spokane with a friend. Coffee was bought two different times. Once at the beginning of our epic trip on the outskirts of Deer park, and the other on the way home. We both always get the 12 oz Americano with steamed cream.
She took me to a greenhouse nursery that I had never been before, we walked the dreamy aisles and talked about terrariums and how to make them. I met a Z plant, one I have never observed before. We smelled plants and the watering of them in the air and were made glad instantly.
On to a thrift store where I found my daughter a glass container for her adventures in making Kombucha, a glass bowl for me, a mossy green pullover sweater that I probably didn't need but wanted. There were two books that I would have loved to have when I was a mom with littles. I bought them for a couple moms I know.
In Manito park, we walked the Gaiser Conservatory where I took close up picture on my phone camera, for later usage of screen savers or some such thing, so close up you can see the water bubbles and smell the green. Almost anyway. If ever you feel blue in February go to a conservatory and be transported to many different regions of our big beautiful earth by the plants from all over the world. This late winter habit is one of the best I know.
We ate lunch at The Onion downtown. The mushroom and Swiss was amazing but the building itself captured my attention more. It reminded me of Kelly's in Newport; wooden floors, inlayed decorative ceiling tiles, wide trim, and the old bar, huge and rounded corners, all whispered age of at least 100 years old.
At the final thrift store, as I glided past the books heading toward dishes and home goods, a lady in a long fur coat stopped in front of me and glowingly told me she had found her furs in a thrift store for 80 dollars. She was also pulling a carry-on suitcase behind her which looked full of who knows what all, brushes, lip stick, beads? It was a very random thing to behold. And I felt like I had just stepped on to a movie set or something. I said, "Good for you" as cheerily as I could. And now that I am home thinking about it, I'm pretty sure all was not well in her mind. I think perhaps, some outside influence was upon her. Not because of her furs but more of her need to explain...Hmmm.

She probably gets to do that without cringing. Not even afterward. Maybe we only think it's a problem. Remember the time Mary washed Jesus feet with her years and wiped them with her hair?
