Less is more

My inspiration this week was an old thought...finding contentment in the simple things of life. Seeing the ordinary as beautiful. I don't know what esp. made me think of it. I had a usual week. Went to a birthday party or two, went to an all day sewing, spent a day shopping for winter clothes, painted a small area in my kitchen, read a book, and did other endless, meaningless chores. Just plain, simple life happening all around me.
Maybe its more than contentment. Perhaps a better word is editing. I am noticing that many things can so easily be overdone, such as too much chocolate, coffee, or words. It is so easy to fling words around like they have no tomorrow and in doing so they lose their true meaning. It even happens in emotions or in the ways we express ourselves, for example, I can say "It was SUCH a good story," Or "It was a very, good story." there's not really anything wrong with either statement other than if you find yourself being the one to be continually using the first choice it gets old. I am tired of over doing my words. Simplicity is restful and meaningful.
The same goes in use of emotion. I spent the day on Tues. with about fifteen other ladies at our sewing. I noticed how much we often over express trying to make ourselves understood.{partly because we are women and God made us to be the main communicators.} Still, I think I abuse my privileges in some of these areas. I know I hear what someone is saying much better if they edit out all the extremes and just get to the point plain and simple. Some of the most unbelievable things happen to people who won't edit at least a little. I think after a time they start to believe their own little dramas as to be actual ,factual happenings.
So lest I undo this whole point; I think it is time to say"enough ." Did I make my point ? Or shall I use another twenty-five precious words trying to explain myself?

  3. Did you ever read the children's books by Elizabeth Yates? She writes like you are talking. There is something very real about it. Not wordy, just real and warm.
